About FGM Records

Greetings and welcome to the website for FGM Records! You're probably already familiar with Flatpicking Guitar Magazine (FGM), a bi-monthly print and audio CD instructional publication dedicated to presenting all aspects of the art and practice of flatpicking the acoustic guitar. Over the past few years we've been working with a number of artists to produce CDs and performance videos, and the opportunity to expand that role has now emerged as FGM Records.

Since 1997 we’ve released a yearly sampler CD of flatpicking music featuring the world’s top flatpicking guitar players. To date, we’ve release six of these samplers. In 2000 we also began releasing our own unique projects which have included the critically acclaimed New Standards for Flatpicking Guitar and DocFest, a tribute to Doc Watson and his musical partners Merle Watson and Jack Lawrence. In the future we’ll continue to release new and innovative projects featuring various flatpicking guitar artists playing in a variety of configurations. Additionally, we will be releasing solo, duo, and band projects from some of the best acoustic guitar players in the industry.

Look forward in the coming months to a wide variety of music CDs as well as performances on both DVD and VHS. In addition to Brad Davis's CD I'm Not Gonna Let My Blues Bring Me Down and the astounding live performance DVD/VHS release Rice, Grier, & Smith: Live! from Kenny Smith, David Grier, and Wyatt Rice, we're pleased to announce Dix Bruce and Jim Nunally's CD Brothers at Heart and Geoffrey Rutledge's CD The Big Top. As with FGM, we're looking to explore all the aspects of flatpicking - Gypsy jazz, old-time, newgrass, bluegrass, acoustic rock, Western swing, acoustic jazz, Celtic, folk, and whatever else we can find. We'll work on projects with many of the FGM columnists, the artists who have been featured in FGM, as well as new and emerging artists.

And if you're worried about our attention to the magazine, don't. FGM Records is the recording branch of the FGM tree. FGM is — and will continue to be — our instructional venue, the way we spread our skills and secrets. FGM Records allows us to share visually and audibly the abundant talent of acoustical guitarists we've encountered during the past few years. And what continues to amaze us is that abundance: Folks, we've barely scratched the proverbial soundboard!

So feel free to browse and read and email us with your suggestions and ideas. Of course, we've got links to FGM and the ever-popular FGM Mercantile, so whichever site you choose to bookmark, you're never far away from one of the universe's best sources of information on the art and practice of flatpicking the acoustic guitar!
