Jon Randall Stewart: Bio

Dallas-born Jon Randall Stewart began playing lead guitar for Emmylou Harris in 1990, at the tender age of 20. By age 21 he had a GRAMMY in hand for his work on Emmylou's At The Ryman CD. But it wasn't coasting, by any means. "I was young and in over my head, so it was better for me to take criticism and learn from it," he said recently in a cover story for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine (March/April 2003).

Jon's Nashville dreams began in 1987, when he graduated high school and drove East to stay with Brad Davis, who was then playing for the Forrester Sisters. He spent time playing with Holly Dunn's band until the opportunity opened with Emmylou Harris. Soon after he began playing with Emmylou, he also began working as part of Sam Bush's band. Working with Sam has enabled John to tour and play with the David Grisman Quintet and Tony Rice with Peter Rowan, as well as appearing on CMT's Crossroads program with Kid Rock. Most recently, Jon's returned to working as the lead guitarist for Emmylou Harris.
