BIOGRAPHY
Subtly entrancing. An achingly pure country voice. Tremendous artistry. A passionate performer. Those are just a few ways in which Jon Randall has been described.
He is best known as writer of the hit song "Whiskey Lullaby", co-written with Whisperin' Bill Anderson, and recorded by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, which earned him a Country Music Association (CMA) award for Song of the Year in 2005. In addition to that honor, he also received an Academy of Country Music (ACM) nomination, and Music Row, a Nashville-based industry publication, presented the writers with Song of the Year honors.
Dallas-born Jon Randall Stewart began playing lead guitar for Emmylou Harris in 1990, at the tender age of 20. By age 21 he had a GRAMMY in hand for his work on Emmylou's At The Ryman CD. But it wasn't coasting, by any means. "I was young and in over my head, so it was better for me to take criticism and learn from it," he said recently in a cover story for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine (March/April 2003).
Jon's Nashville dreams began in 1987, when he graduated high school and drove East to stay with Brad Davis, who was then playing for the Forrester Sisters. He spent time playing with Holly Dunn's band until the opportunity opened with Emmylou Harris. Soon after he began playing with Emmylou, he also began working as part of Sam Bush's band. Working with Sam enabled John to tour and play with the David Grisman Quintet and Tony Rice with Peter Rowan, as well as appearing on CMT's Crossroads program with Kid Rock.
He has gone on tour with and opened for the likes of Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, The Sam Bush Band, Earl Scruggs and Friends, Trisha Yearwood, John Corbett, Nanci Griffith, and Emmylou Harris. He's appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Grand Ole Opry, A&E's Breakfast with the Arts, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with David Letterman, Martha, The View, The Tony Danza Show, and Emeril Live.

Jon Randall Stewart's fourth solo album, Willin', has been recently added to the FGM Records catalog.
Willin' was a long-term project that began when Jon, Larry Atamanuik, and legendary bassist Roy Huskey, Jr. sat down in Brent Truitt's new Nashville recording studio. Jon decided to record music that "we knew we couldn't put on a major label." Three or four years later, Jon took those tracks and invited friends like Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, John Cowan, Lorrie Morgan, Al Perkins, and Emmylou Harris to help him finish the project. With the except of "Willin'" (a Lowell George tune), all tunes on this CD are Jon Randall Stewart originals.
